Expert Seeds’ Orange Skunk Description

Orange Skunk is claimed by Expert Seeds to be the absolute best Orange strain available today. It got its name from the almost overwhelming smell of oranges and other freshly cut citrus fruits. It is a 50/50 indica/sativa cannabis strain which can display marvellous colours of maroon and purple when exposed to cool night-time temperatures close to the end of the flowering period. Orange Skunk was created by crossing a strain called Orange Velvet with another called Jack the Ripper.

Apart from the delicious aroma Orange Skunk has other very positive traits; with 21.6% THC the effect is very strong bordering on trippy. In addition it is a prodigious yielder that produces between 600 – 700 gr/m2 indoors and up to 1150 gr/plant outdoors. Flowering time is a respectable 55 – 65 days indoors; outdoors in the northern hemisphere growers can expect a late September finish. Maximum production is gained from plants that have been trained into a bush pattern.

                                            California Orange x Skunk Feminized

California Orange x Skunk Fem is a combination of California Orange’s tropical citrus scent blended with a considerable dose of strong and pungent Skunk #1. Fans of citrusy cannabis will find this strain a new favorite. Having a moderate THC level of around 16%, it presents the best of both worlds – an appreciable Sativa surge filled with energy and inspiration, followed by a satisfying relaxation. This strain is also a potential source of comfort for MMJ patients who need some assistance dealing with stress, anxiety, and pain.

                                            Growing

California Orange x Skunk Fem may seem unapproachable for beginner growers or those with minimal experience, but with the right preparation and basic knowledge, growing these seeds is perfectly manageable. Taking after its California Orange parent, this hybrid can grow to a massive height, featuring spiky fan leaves and pale green flowers crawling with orange pistils and coated with fine, white trichomes. Despite its size, it can be manipulated to fit into any size setting.

Though this plant can thrive indoors or outdoors, cultivating it in a more controlled environment like a greenhouse or grow tent is recommended to produce a more bountiful output. The use of nutrient-rich, organic soil also helps to enhance its outstanding terpene profile. Alternatively, you can also grow it in a hydroponics system where water is used to deliver nutrients instead of soil.

                                            Flowering Time

Indoors, California Orange x Skunk Fem is a fast-flowering Sativa that takes around 8 to 10 weeks to produce usable buds. This is not very common among Sativa-heavy hybrids since their usual flowering time can be as long as 10 to 12 weeks. Outdoors, harvest season is in mid-October to give you enough time to prepare for heavy rainfall and early winter frost.

                                            Indoor

Although California Orange x Skunk Fem can get very tall, cultivating these beauties indoors can also be done. However, they may require special care, particularly once the massive flowers begin to emerge. One problem that may arise is that the heavy colas tend to droop or sag, potentially breaking the branches. This can be remedied by providing a support structure or incorporating the Screen of Green (SCROG) method. Using these techniques, a generous yield of 300 to 450 grams (10 to 16 ounces) can be achieved.

As a short introduction, SCROG is a growing technique wherein the plants are trained to grow horizontally during the vegetative phase. To implement it, place a screen or mesh over the seedlings, and as they grow, the new branches are trained to lie flat by weaving them into the screen’s holes, securing everything in place. The idea is to keep them growing at an even height until most of the screen is covered.

However, the temperature and relative humidity (RH) must be monitored closely during scrogging. Pruning, topping, and trimming can be done to remove extraneous foliage, thus ensuring maximum light exposure and better airflow within the room. For the buds to develop to their full potential, use a 12/12 lighting schedule with 600-watt high-intensity discharge (HID) bulbs during the flowering period. Aim to mimic a sunny environment with a consistent temperature between 21 and 26 degrees Celsius (70 to 80 degrees Fahrenheit) and RH at 40 to 50%.

                                            Outdoor

If you have access to a warm Mediterranean-like climate, then you can treat these plants to an outdoor setup. There, they can extend up to their maximum height of 180 cm (6 feet) tall. Show them some love and attention, and you can expect up to 350 grams (12 ounces) of fruity nugs per plant.

                                            Medical Application

Many medical marijuana patients who seek treatment are presented with high-THC strains at dispensaries. Some users are unaware that those varietals with minimal to average THC concentrations are also very effective, such as California Orange x Skunk. The euphoric and uplifting mental high may be used to address various psychological ailments. It is a versatile panacea for everything from everyday stress to anxiety disorders, general malaise, and even depression.

While this pot’s antidepressant and anxiolytic properties work on the mind, its equally potent anti-inflammatory and analgesic qualities will soothe different physical ailments, whether they are mild or severe. It may be used to alleviate migraines, arthritis, and muscle spasms.

In short, anyone who suffers from physical pain and mental fatigue will likely find this strain useful to regain drive and energy. It is well-balanced cannabis that is really worth trying.

                                            Adverse Reactions

Regardless of the dose and strain, all cannabis is capable of inducing the usual side effects. California Orange x Skunk is no exception. The most common reactions are limited to dry eyes and cotton mouth. Counter these discomforts through proper hydration and the use of artificial tears.

However, going beyond the recommended dose can lead to more serious adverse responses, such as dizziness, headache, and increase anxiety. Even veteran smokers advise starting at a low dose and observing if you can handle the effects.

                                            Effects

Even with a moderate 16% THC content, California Orange x Skunk is not a strain to play around with. The effects start out as Sativa, penetrating the mind quickly, and clearing away stress and tension. They will be replaced by a renewed clarity and a surge of energy, making this weed suitable for busy days with lots of tasks to get done. However, using this strain as a wake ‘n bake requires careful dosing so that you do not slip into a more chilled-out Indica vibe immediately.

Know your tolerance level, and you can ride this strain’s creative and energetic high throughout the day. It will allow the mental high to slowly fade away once you have accomplished all you need to do, and you are ready to take it easy. Once the Indica component starts to kick in, the mental clarity and focus will not disappear instantly, but you will soon find yourself sinking into a satisfying state of physical serenity.

This strain is the ideal choice for busy days to keep you stimulated and motivated. Nevertheless, consumers with low tolerance to THC must approach these buds with caution to avoid being overwhelmed by the cerebral and body effects.

                                            Fragrance

California Orange x Skunk embodies the best of both her parent strains, especially in terms of aroma. It has an exquisitely sour top-note of fresh orange pulp combined with a strong skunkiness. The invigorating combination is an unusual treat for the nose.

                                            Flavors

This strain is a treat for the tongue as well. It has a smoothly blended sweet and sour flavor that is simply unforgettable. The taste is soothing yet sharp, tangy, and zesty. Although the buds have a potent earthy taste due to its Skunk heritage, it is neutralized by the tropical tones of the other parent, California Orange.

                                            Similar Strains

If you are looking for other strains with hints of Skunk, then you can go with Skunk x Rosetta Stone Fast Fem. This strain exhibits a strong Indica nature, having a potent THC level of 20%. It is a fast-flowering herb that has a budding period taking only 6 to 8 weeks to complete. Even with a shorter flowering stage, it is capable of producing 500 grams (17 to 18 ounces) or usable pot per square meter, or 550 grams (19 to 20 ounces) per plant outdoors.

Another Skunk hybrid you can add to your collection is Skunk x Northern Lights Fast Fem. It owes its refined yet complex genetics to legendary strains like Afghani, Colombia, Mexican, and Thai. It is almost a pure Indica plant, exerting both a stimulating mental high – capable of inducing a psychedelic experience – and extreme body-numbing effects. These seeds are the fast version, meaning they cut the normal flowering period by at least 2 weeks.

One more worthy strain is Skunk x Cinderella 99 Fast Fem. This small plant can conveniently be cultivated in a regular-sized grow tent, where it can give you 400 to 600 grams (14 to 21 ounces) of delicious weed per square meter. When grown outdoors, each bush can produce 600 grams (21 ounces), which can be harvested in September. This balanced hybrid has both Sativa and Indica effects. You will get a euphoric high that will wake you up and give you a boost of energy.

Or how about Skunk Mazar Fem? Although both of its parents, Skunk #1 and Mazar, come from Indica-dominant origins, the effects are strongly Sativa, with the Indica sedation coming at the end. The sky-high THC level of around 24% will take you on a psychedelic rollercoaster ride of euphoria that has profound relaxing impacts even as it is cerebrally stimulating. This strain’s heritage speaks for itself regarding the sweet, skunky scent and sensory-stimulating reaction.

Still, it is very difficult to beat the original – Skunk #1 Fem. With this 17% THC strain, just a little goes a long way. A puff or two will send you into a state of euphoria, melting worries away. You may experience some giggling fits and become a bit more sociable than usual. In contrast to its pungent and strong aroma, Skunk #1 has a honey-like taste. It has a captivating, enchanting flavor with an earthy sweetness that has an underlying hint of citrus.

                                            Nick Names

California Orange x Skunk is also known as Orange Skunk. Its orange-scented parent, California Orange, goes by the monikers California Orange Bud or C.O.B.
